Hi, I’m Rick
I work in the Dutch housing market, and I started Rent in Holland to help expats understand how renting in the Netherlands really works.
The Dutch rental system has strong protections for tenants: around rent levels, deposits, service charges, and the Huurcommissie. But those protections only help if you know they exist and how to use them. When you have just moved here and everything is in a new language, that is easier said than done.
Over the past 10 years working in the Dutch housing market, I have seen how often newcomers pay more than they should, or miss rights they are entitled to, simply because no one explained the system to them in plain English. This site is my way of fixing that. Every guide is written to be clear and practical: what your rights are, what to check, and what to do when something is not right.
Alongside the free guides, I also make downloadable templates, like rental contract checklists and objection letters, so you can handle common situations yourself. You will find those throughout the site and in my Etsy shop.
I am not a lawyer, and this site is not a law firm. I am someone who knows the Dutch rental system from the inside and wants to make it less intimidating for the people moving here. The information here is for general guidance. For your specific situation, check with the Huurcommissie, the Juridisch Loket, or a qualified legal advisor.
Have a look around, start with the guide that fits your situation, and rent in the Netherlands with a bit more confidence.
