Who I am
Rent in Holland (rentinholland.nl) is an English-language website with practical guides about renting in the Netherlands, written for expats. In this policy, “Rent in Holland”, “I” and “me” refer to this website and the person responsible for it.
I take your privacy seriously, and I keep data collection to a minimum. This policy explains what personal data I collect, why, how long I keep it, and the rights you have. It is written in plain English, not legal jargon. If you have any questions, email me at info@rentinholland.nl.
What data I collect and why
Website analytics. With your consent, I use Google Analytics to see how visitors use the site, for example which guides are read most. This helps me improve the content. Analytics only runs after you accept it in the cookie banner. If you decline, no analytics data is collected. The data is pseudonymised and your IP address is anonymised.
When you contact me. If you email me, I receive your email address and whatever you choose to write. I use this only to read and reply to your message.
Server logs. My hosting provider automatically keeps basic technical logs, such as IP addresses and browser type, to keep the site secure and running. This is standard for almost every website.
Cookies. The site uses a small number of cookies. Functional cookies are always active; analytics cookies run only after your consent. For the full list, see the Cookie Policy.
The legal basis for using your data
Under the GDPR, I rely on your consent for analytics cookies, which you can withdraw at any time, and on legitimate interest for keeping the site secure and replying to messages you send me.
Who I share data with
I never sell your data. I share it only with the services that make the site work: Google (Google Analytics, only after your consent) and Hostinger (my hosting provider, which stores the site and its logs). These providers process data on my behalf under their own data protection obligations.
Data outside the European Union
Google may process analytics data on servers outside the EU, including in the United States. Where that happens, it relies on legal safeguards such as the EU-US Data Privacy Framework and Standard Contractual Clauses.
How long I keep your data
Analytics data is retained by Google for a limited period set in the Analytics account, then automatically deleted. Emails are kept only as long as needed to handle your question. Server logs are kept briefly by my hosting provider for security.
Your rights
Under the GDPR, you have the right to access the data I hold about you, to have it corrected or deleted, to object to or restrict its use, to receive it in a portable format, to withdraw your consent at any time, and to lodge a complaint with the Dutch Data Protection Authority (Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens). To exercise any of these, just email me at info@rentinholland.nl and I will respond as soon as I can.
Changes to this policy
I may update this policy from time to time, for example if the site or the law changes. The date at the top shows when it was last updated.
